Classroom Technology

As a teacher in today's technological advanced classroom, it is somewhat a challenge to keep up! New products and ideas are coming about every day. Our students are very involved with many different types of new technology and it might surprise someone at how much they know at such a young age.

In my classroom, I use a SMART board everyday. It is a wonderful tool for teaching Mathematics. It not only makes showing detailed examples easier for me, it makes it so much more interesting for my students. We can play interactive games, I can insert a geometric figure in a matter of seconds (saves me from demonstrating my lack of art skills), and all this can be saved and printed for the students. When learning how to use the SMART board one might say that 'practice makes perfect' meaning it takes a lot of practice to learn the many features.

What other types of new products are you using in your classroom? I would love to have many other gadgets to use in my classroom, however, with the budget crisis I am lucky to have what I've got!

  1. As a fellow Geometry teacher I can completely understand using technology to overcome my lack of art skills. Fortunately, drawing a straight line isn't a prerequsite! In general I use an interwrite pad and an ELMO. I like to change things up to keep the students guessing. There are several interactive web sites that are pretty cool on the overhead for our chapter on circles.

  2. I use a smartboard, and an airliner for the majority of my classroom instruction. I have an ipod for podcasting, but I have not worked on that much as of yet.

  3. I would love to try out the interwrite pad and I would love to have an ELMO. Most of the room in our school does have a SMART board but we don't have these other products. Rusty, I don't even know what an airliner is! Sounds fun!
